The stern of a narrowboat is its most exposed position — the working area where the helmsman stands is open to weather from all sides, and the engine bay immediately beneath is at risk from rain ingress. A stern cover protects the tiller position, the rear hatch, the engine bay hatch, and the weedhatch — all areas that benefit from weather protection when the boat is moored.
Trad Stern vs Cruiser Stern
Traditional narrowboats have a small, raised trad stern deck with the engine room directly beneath. Cruiser stern narrowboats have a larger, open cockpit-style stern with more seating space. The cover design differs significantly between these two configurations. Materials
