Frequently Asked Questions
Do you make covers for narrowboats and canal boats?
Yes, we specialize in custom covers for narrowboats including full-length tonneau covers, cabin covers, cratch covers, and bimini tops. We serve all UK inland waterways including the Grand Union, Oxford, and Leeds-Liverpool canals.
How much does a narrowboat cover cost?
Narrowboat cover pricing depends on length, coverage type, and fabric choice. Cratch covers and small sections start from around £250, with full-length tonneau covers priced individually. Send your old cover for an exact quote. No VAT charged.
What's the best material for a canal boat cover?
For narrowboats, we recommend either marine-grade acrylic (breathable, UV-resistant) or heavy-duty PVC (fully waterproof). Acrylic suits summer use, while PVC is better for winter storage. Both withstand UK canal conditions.
Can you copy my existing narrowboat cover?
Yes, we copy existing narrowboat covers exactly. Post your old cover to us and we'll create an identical replacement with improved materials and fasteners where needed. 6-day turnaround, UK-wide postal service.
Cruiser Stern Covers for Narrowboats
Cruiser stern narrowboats have a large open cockpit at the rear, similar in concept to a motorboat cockpit, providing more outdoor living space than a traditional trad stern. This cockpit needs a proper cover — one that encloses the full cockpit opening rather than just draping over the helm position.
Design Options
Most cruiser stern covers use a combination of a main top panel and drop-down side panels. The top panel stretches from the cabin back to the stern rail. Side panels zip or press-stud onto the top panel edges and drop to the coaming level, creating a fully enclosed cockpit. Access zips in the side panels allow entry without removing the whole cover. Clear vinyl windows in the side and rear panels allow natural light into the cockpit and provide rearward visibility.
Compared with Trad Stern Covers
Cruiser stern covers are more complex than trad stern covers because of the larger cockpit area and the multiple panels involved. They take more time to make and are accordingly more expensive. However, they also provide significantly more usable sheltered space when moored. If you use your narrowboat as a leisure home rather than primarily for cruising, the investment in a full cruiser stern cover is usually worthwhile.
Cruiser stern cockpit covers from £429. No VAT. Post your existing cover for an exact copy or contact us for a quote. We also make trad stern covers and all other narrowboat cover types.
