Marine PVC — The Waterproof Choice

Our marine-grade PVC is an 850gsm coated fabric designed specifically for exposed outdoor use. The outer face carries a UV-stabilised coating that prevents colour fading and surface degradation; the inner face is soft-backed to reduce abrasion against your boat's gelcoat or paintwork. It is fully waterproof: water beads off the surface immediately rather than soaking in.

Marine PVC is the right choice for boats moored in the open — on tidal rivers, exposed marinas, coastal moorings, or anywhere the cover will face regular heavy rain. It is also the better material for winter storage, where sustained wet weather and the weight of standing water would challenge a lighter fabric. Odyssey Plus Acrylic Canvas — The Breathable Alternative

Odyssey Plus is a solution-dyed acrylic canvas — the same family of materials used by premium boat cover manufacturers worldwide. The key difference from PVC is breathability: the weave allows moisture vapour to pass through from beneath, preventing condensation build-up inside the cover. On boats moored in covered locations, or where the boat is used regularly during the season, a breathable cover significantly reduces damp and mould below decks.

Acrylic canvas has a traditional, cloth-like appearance that many owners of classic cruisers and older boats prefer aesthetically. It is lighter than PVC, making it easier to put on and take off. UV resistance is excellent — the solution-dyeing process means colour is built into the fibre rather than sitting on the surface, so it fades far less than cheaper dyed fabrics.

Which Fabric Is Right for Your Boat?

The choice depends mainly on your mooring conditions and how often you use your boat. As a general rule: if your boat sits exposed to open-air weather for most of the year, choose PVC. If your boat is in a covered marina, under a canopy, or you take it out regularly through the season, choose acrylic. Both fabrics perform well in UK conditions; the difference is most apparent on boats that stay under cover for extended periods.
