Weaver Navigation Boat Covers

The Weaver Navigation is a canalised river running approximately 20 miles through the salt country of Cheshire, from Winsford in the south through the historic salt industry town of Northwich to Weston Point on the Mersey Estuary, where it connects to the Manchester Ship Canal. The navigation's most famous feature is the Anderton Boat Lift, a magnificent Victorian hydraulic structure completed in 1875 that connects the Weaver to the Trent & Mersey Canal above, raising and lowering boats 50 feet in two counterbalanced water-filled tanks. Restored to working order in 2002, the lift is now a Grade I listed structure and a tourist attraction in its own right, as well as a working boat lift used daily. Northwich, the Weaver's main town, has a fascinating connection to the salt and chemical industries, with brine subsidence causing many historic buildings to tilt at alarming angles.
