Union Canal Boat Covers

The Union Canal runs 32 miles from Lochrin Basin at the heart of Edinburgh to Falkirk, where it connects to the Forth & Clyde Canal via the spectacular Falkirk Wheel. Opened in 1822, the canal was designed as a contour canal with no locks along its entire length — a remarkable feat of engineering through undulating central Scotland — relying instead on three impressive stone aqueducts to cross the River Almond, the Water of Leith, and the River Avon. The Almond Aqueduct, the longest in Scotland, is a fine example of early 19th-century canal engineering. Restored and reopened in 2001 as part of the Millennium Link project along with the Forth & Clyde Canal, the Union Canal now supports an active narrowboating and leisure craft scene, with Edinburgh's Lochrin Basin a vibrant starting point.
