Frequently Asked Questions
Do you make covers for narrowboats and canal boats?
Yes, we specialize in custom covers for narrowboats including full-length tonneau covers, cabin covers, cratch covers, and bimini tops. We serve all UK inland waterways including the Grand Union, Oxford, and Leeds-Liverpool canals.
How much does a narrowboat cover cost?
Narrowboat cover pricing depends on length, coverage type, and fabric choice. Cratch covers and small sections start from around £250, with full-length tonneau covers priced individually. Send your old cover for an exact quote. No VAT charged.
What's the best material for a canal boat cover?
For narrowboats, we recommend either marine-grade acrylic (breathable, UV-resistant) or heavy-duty PVC (fully waterproof). Acrylic suits summer use, while PVC is better for winter storage. Both withstand UK canal conditions.
Can you copy my existing narrowboat cover?
Yes, we copy existing narrowboat covers exactly. Post your old cover to us and we'll create an identical replacement with improved materials and fasteners where needed. 6-day turnaround, UK-wide postal service.
Narrowboat Cockpit Covers
On cruiser stern narrowboats, the large open cockpit area at the stern is the most practical space on the boat — but also the most exposed to weather when moored. A cockpit cover protects the seating, helm position, and cockpit sole when the boat is at its mooring, keeping the space usable even in wet weather and reducing the cleaning required after a rainy period.
Cockpit Cover Design for Cruiser Sterns
A cruiser stern cockpit cover typically consists of a main top panel (covering the cockpit opening from the cabin back to the stern rail) and optional side panels that zip down to create full enclosure. The cover attaches to the cabin back wall via press studs, to the stern rail via stainless steel clips or press studs, and to the cockpit coaming sides via a close-fitting hem. Clear vinyl windows in the side panels allow visibility aft when the boat is underway with the cover partially deployed.
Materials
Marine PVC is the standard choice for cockpit covers on boats moored in the open. If your narrowboat is moored in a covered location or you primarily use it in summer, acrylic canvas may be preferable for its lighter weight and easier handling. Both materials are UV-resistant and weatherproof for UK canal conditions.
