How Model-Specific Boat Covers Are Made

Universal boat covers are sized to a range — 18–21ft, or 22–26ft — which means they fit no individual boat correctly. Excess fabric pools at the gunwales, leaving gaps where wind can get underneath and lift the cover off entirely. Rain works its way in at every loose seam. On fibreglass and GRP boats, a shifting cover abrades the gelcoat throughout a winter's mooring.

A cover cut from your original fits your boat's exact beam, freeboard height, and deck profile. Every seam lands in the same place as the original. Every attachment point matches the same rail or stanchion. There's no bunching, no gaps, and no guesswork about whether the rear quarter will reach. The result is a cover that lasts significantly longer because it doesn't move.

The Postal Copy Service — No Measurements Required

Our process is straightforward. Remove your existing cover — however worn or damaged it is — pack it into a box, and post it to our workshop in Carterton, Oxfordshire. We lay it flat, take a full pattern from every panel, then cut and sew your new cover in your chosen fabric and colour. Your original is returned with the new one, usually within six working days.

You don't need to supply dimensions, drawings, or photos of your boat. The old cover is the pattern. This works for any age of cover: a 30-year-old original in poor condition produces just as accurate a new cover as a pristine one. If you don't have the original at all, contact us — we hold patterns for most models on our list and can often work from those.

Choosing the Right Fabric

We offer two materials. Marine PVC (850gsm) is fully waterproof and highly durable — the better choice for boats moored in the open, on tidal rivers, or in exposed locations. Odyssey Plus acrylic canvas is lighter and breathable, reducing condensation beneath the cover; it suits boats in covered moorings or where the owner prefers a traditional canvas appearance. Both are UV-resistant and available in a full range of colours including navy, grey, dark green, and burgundy.

No VAT — Save 20%

UK Boat Covers is a family-run business below the VAT threshold. You pay no VAT on any cover — saving 20% compared with larger, VAT-registered suppliers. Prices start from £363 for a simple tonneau cover and from £595 for a full canopy. View the full price list or request a quote for your specific model.

Pattern Library and Repeat Orders

Once we've made a cover for your boat, we keep the pattern on file. Future orders — whether the same cover worn out, or a second cover while the first is still serviceable — can be fulfilled without you posting your cover again. Many customers order two covers at the same time, keeping one in use while the other is stored. Patterns are held indefinitely.
