Our Story
UK Boat Covers was started by Ryan in 2015 from a workshop in Carterton, Oxfordshire. The business grew from a single observation: boat owners were paying high prices for covers that didn't fit, made by companies charging VAT on top. Ryan set out to make genuinely bespoke covers — each one cut from the customer's existing cover as a pattern — at prices that reflected the actual cost of the work, with no VAT added.
Ten years on, the business remains family-run. Every cover is still made by hand in the same Carterton workshop. The team has grown, the pattern library now includes over 170 boat models, and the postal copy service ships to every corner of the UK — but the core offer is unchanged: a cover that fits your specific boat, made from marine-grade fabric, with no VAT and a six-day turnaround.
How We Work
The postal copy service is the foundation of the business. You remove your existing cover, box it up, and post it to us. We take a full pattern from every panel — recording the exact shape, all seam positions, every attachment point and window cutout. Then we cut and sew your new cover in your chosen material and colour. Both your original and the new cover are returned together, usually within six working days of us receiving the parcel.
No measurements, no site visits, no templates to fill in. The old cover does all the work. This approach means every cover we make is accurate to the specific boat it came from — accounting for any subtle variations in how your hull was actually built, even if the model name is the same as another boat.
Materials and Quality
We use two fabrics: heavy-duty marine PVC (850gsm, fully waterproof and UV-resistant) for boats in exposed or tidal locations, and Odyssey Plus acrylic canvas (breathable, UV-resistant, traditional appearance) for covered moorings and owners who prefer canvas. Both carry a manufacturer's UV and water resistance rating suitable for UK conditions.
All stitching uses UV-stabilised polyester thread. Zips are heavy-duty marine grade. Attachment systems — press studs, buckle straps, bungee hems — are specified to match the original where possible or improved where the original showed signs of wear.
Ratings and Reviews
We hold a 4.9/5 rating from over 127 verified customer reviews. Most customers come back for repeat orders — either a second cover for the same boat, or covers for a new boat after they sell the original. The pattern library means repeat orders can be fulfilled without the customer posting their cover again.
